Our Instructors

Dana

Dana was first introduced to yoga in 1999; she found that yoga took years to draw her in. Three years after her first yoga class and life altering car accident she found yoga to be quite beneficial; she began to incorporate yoga and other healing energies and practices into her daily life. Once she and her husband opened Nica Yoga she was honored to immerse herself in the presence and practice of some amazing yogis and yoginis whom lovingly shared their knowledge of yoga with her. When there came an opportunity to lead class Dana graciously obliged.

Dana's style is basic and restorative and vested in appreciation and respect for our body and spirit.  Guests of her class are welcomed to unwind in Shivasana combined with her special healing touch.

Hannah Spangler

Hannah Spangler's study of yoga began in 2000 as a new years resolution, and blossomed into a devotion. Over the next 7 years, she has traveled, while practicing and living on Ashrams in New Zealand, California, and India.
Hannah has studied many yoga styles including, Ashtanga, Anusara, Bikram, Hatha, Iyengar, Jivamukti, Kundalini, Sadhana, and Yoga therapy. In 2007, due to a disibilitatiing back injury, she decided to make a life change, trading her EMT certification for one in yoga therapy. She believes that, “If I can heal myself, I can heal others”
In 2009, she continued to develop her spiritual practice and  became certified to teach Sadhana Yoga, a practice based on the Sivananda Yoga Tradition in which each pose is a meditation. Currently teaching and inspiring in San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua.
Hannah Spangler is a 500 hr RYT (registered yoga teacher) with Yoga Alliance. She has certification in yoga therapy from Mount Madonna in Gilroy, CA and Sadhana yoga through Yoga School Institute.  Her passion in practice is Iyengar based alignments, vinyasa movement with breathe, and healing the body and mind with a safe and creative flow.
She loves working equally with beginners as well as advanced students, and in addition, teaches children yoga. When she is not teaching yoga, Hannah is a professional child care specialist, and travels all over the world with her clients.

Jamie Quirk

Jamie Quirk is a smiling, native Californian, born and
raised by the ocean in the bright sunshine. During 10 years of dancing, Jamie discovered the wonders of yoga. In the beginning, she practiced yoga for cross training, stretching, and to elongate her muscles. Not long thereafter did she realize that yoga had changed her life. She began practicing Bikram Yoga on a regular basis, and experimented with various styles, such as Anusara, Ashtanga, Iyengar, Vinyassa Flow, and Hatha Yoga. After attending the Wanderlust Yoga and Music Festival in 2009, she realized that teaching others the joy of yoga would be her calling.

In 2010, Jamie decided to make the move to Central America. San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua is what she calls ‘home’ now! After completing her 200hr yoga teacher training from School Yoga Institute, she is living her dream teaching yoga to tourists and locals, beginners and intermediate, and absolutely loving life! Jamie is excited to join forces with the other amazing yoga teachers to host yoga and wellness retreats!

“When I am teaching yoga to others, my goal is to make
our practice fun and light, to provide them with knowledge on the asunas, and bring them love and awareness. There is nothing better than when you see smiles on your students’ faces during practice, and the peace that overcomes them in final savasana! It is the most rewarding job I’ve ever had! In a retreat setting, it is important to me to be very descriptive during yoga instruction. I like to be hands on when I teach a
class to give accurate instruction, to prevent injury, and give the students the full benefits of practice…with a smile, of course!”

Kristin

Kristin first discovered her passion for teaching yoga in Winter 2009 while traveling through Central America and offering informal classes for other weary travelers. During that time, she spent a full month in our very own San Juan del Sur and set an intention that came to fruition 3 years later to live and teach Yoga full-time in Nicaragua!  In April 2010, she went on to complete a 200 hour teacher training program in Costa Rica, led by her dear friend and mentor, Costa Rica/Philadelphia based yoga instructor, Angela Boltz.  Kristin enjoys leading inspiring and joyful all-level flows, designed to bring strength, flexibility and balance to the entire body and mind.  With a Masters degree in Counseling Psychology, Kristin believes deeply in the mind-body connection and challenges herself and others to use the mat as a safe place to explore and become curious about who we are.  In the future, she hopes to combine her two great passions, Mental Health and Yoga, to provide innovative, yoga-inspired therapy to the community.

Amber Campion

“Amber first began her journey on this path at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition in New York City studying to be a Holistic Health Counselor. Since graduation she has continued her studies in Yoga, Thai Massage, Reiki, and the Brazilian Martial Art known as Capoeira.
Since 2005, she has studied with many talented teachers such as Mestre (master) Foca in Capoeira, Seane Corn, Sadie Nardini, Dharma Mittra and endless other teachers that have passed through or reside in New York City.

Her work as a yoga teacher began with The Lineage Project, teaching at-risk and incarcerated youth and this experience has greatly influenced her teaching style. She studied Thai massage originally in New York, but then traveled to Chiang Mai, Thailand to deepen her studies. She is also a Certified Level II Reiki Practitioner and due to her experience with Thai massage and energy work, her classes often come with gentle, yet effective assists/adjustments.

As a yogi, capoeirista, and teacher her personal process is to keep the channel of her truth open and to remember to stay in balance with the practices; both acknowledging the lessons and value in body and in spirit and how they go hand in hand. She encourages her students to find the balance between the two as well.
